Hello Families,

Here are a few of the interesting things that we did this week were:

- finishing up our work of learning about evidence and investigation by looking in to human and animal footprints, and made strong connections to how they can provide with evidence of a crime, as well as track animals.

- beginning our work with step-by-step multiplication.  Students have begun their journey with 2 by 1 and have moved up to 4 by 1 questions.  They will soon be moving in to 2 by 2 multiplication in both algorithm and word problem form.  The class has also been playing a variety of math games, so that they can build their fact fluency skills.

- performing in our winter concert was a lot of hard work for the students, but it resulted in a fantastic event that all students should be very proud of.  Students practiced reading their lines with expression, projecting their voice, adding actions, and giving and receiving feedback.

MITTEN TREE

We are collecting gently used and/or new children's mittens to donate to another CBE school who has many students arriving to school without mittens. We are hoping to pack up our donations and deliver them before the winter break so the students can play in the snow over the break.

Please note that we are only able to accept cash for this fundraiser. Thank you for your understanding!

 Hello Families,

Some of the exciting things that we did this week were:

- Exploring the Box Strategy to solve multiplication questions.  We have been practicing our multiplication fact fluency by playing various math games.

- Continued to work on writing a story based on a picture prompt.  Students used a picture that features dragons flying in the sky to inspire their writing.  Focus was also placed on conventions, spelling, sentence structure and organizations.  Students completed a self-evaluation rubric and set goals for their next writing piece.

- Began learning the cursive alphabet, both upper and lowercase, in order to practice fine motor skills, improve or learn how to write in and read cursive and also connect it to our investigation of how forensic scientists analyze handwriting samples to identify a match.

- Started our learning about the elements of art and focused on the element of line.  Students looked at examples of line, explored using some of them, practiced creating multiple different examples of lines within a template and then created their own piece based on a mountain landscape.

UPCOMING DATES AND INFORMATION:

- Mitten Tree:  We are collecting gently used and/or new children's mittens to donate to another CBE school who has many students arriving to school without mittens. We are hoping to pack up our donations and deliver them before the winter break so the students can play in the snow over the break.
