Hell Families!
Some of the exciting things that we did this week were:
- celebrating Pi Day by taking part in a CBE wide read a loud focusing on how math is for everyone and brainstorming a list of how math is everywhere in our world.
- beginning to gather information about the people that exist in their region of Canada. Students are quickly learning about how diverse the regions are with cultures, traditions, and history of the various groups.
- continuing to explore the water cycle by collaborating to perform a reader's theatre play about the stages of the water cycle and then create a both eye catching and detailed visual journal page demonstrating their understanding of the cycle.
- continuing to work on their biography writing based on Autumn Peltier. Students finished up their rough drafts and were able to meet with a peer to give and receive feedback, based on success criteria. We spoke about how feedback should be directly related to supporting their peer improve their work and be directly based on the success criteria. We also discussed that feedback is not meant to be criticism and not to take suggestions too personally. Students then used the feedback that they were given and applied it to their writing.
- exploring what criteria is needed for a planet to be considered a dwarf planet, as well as conducting research on a planet of their choice and creating a Google Slides presentation to share with their peers. Students then created a page in their visual journal that contained a Venn diagram, which compared their planet and Earth.
- celebrating St. Patrick's Day by exploring the Bitmoji Classroom. Students toured the room looking for hidden links, which led them to a variety of lessons and activities related to the day; how rainbows formed, how to say Happy St' Patrick's Day in Irish, two math tasks (ordered pairs and order of operations) that revealed a Irish joke/saying, the history of St. Patrick's Day, the story of the Blarney Stone, why shamrocks area a symbol of luck, and a writing activity about limericks.
