 Hello Families,

A few of the exciting things that we did this week were:

- making our weekly trip to the learning commons to observe the aquarium that's been there over the past month.  The students first looked into the tank and made observations and predictions on what they thought were in there.  Students used the journalling techniques that we learned at City Hall School called, " I See, I Think, I Wonder" to record their findings.  Over the course of the month they have watched the living things in the tank change drastically and soon they will find out what they are!  Having this opportunity allows students to practice their skills related to critical thinking, predicting, posing thick questions and organizing ideas.  Below are some pictures of what they have looked like during our visits so far.

- beginning our leaning around the order of operations, which the students are very excited about.  Some commented that they like having the steps to follow to solve complicated problems and some others think that it is like solving a puzzle.

- engaging in some low-stakes writing prompts to help students expand on the types of topics that they write about, as well as connecting their work to their personal experiences.  This week's prompts were, "Make a Change Monday: What can you do to make the world more awesome?" and "What's Good Wednesday?!: Tell me something good about your week so far!" Following their writing they have time to self-edit, share with their peers, and apply peer feedback.

- spending time with our 1/2 buddies playing math and literacy games.
