Hello Families,

Some of the exciting things that we did this week were:

- learning about adding and subtracting fractions with common denominators.  We then moved onto learning about mixed numbers and improper fractions and their relationship.  Many students were able to make real world connections to where they would find mixed fractions in real life, such as baking.

- having a very unique experience of having the HAWKS Police helicoptor come and land in our school field.  The staff and students loved it and learned a lot about how helicopters fly and also how to police force uses them to support Calgary.

- continuing to exploration Alberta wetlands by researching plant and animal adaptations and conditions needed for survival, as well as the life cycles of both plants and animals.

- welcoming a rugby instructor to teach us about ruby!  Students learned the basics of the game, (ie. how to hold, catch and pass the ball, as well as scoring, running plays, terminology, and sportsmenship), through games and drills.  The students had a blast!

- continued our learning about local trees and forests by researching plants and animals and their relationship with trees, the connection between the sun, plants and photosynthesis, as well as the parts of a tree and classifying leaf shapes and parts.  Students also learned that you can tell aa great deal fro a cross section of a tree trunk, with regards to age and the history of growing conditions.

- creating some beautiful spring themed art to help decorate the gym for the Volunteer Tea.  We hope that all that joined us to celebrate today felt our gratitude.  For those who were not able to attend today, we hope that you know that we love and appreciate our volunteers and all that they do.  Without you generously giving your time to support teachers and students, many of the opportunities that we have had this year would not have been possible.  You're the greatest!
